Between History and Nature

Villa Donna Luisa, located along the Ionian coast in the
magnificent setting of the Salento peninsula, offers not only spectacular natural beauty but also a rich historical and artistic heritage.

From a naturalistic perspective, the Salento coast around the Grotta Zinzulusa is renowned for its breathtaking cliffs and hidden coves. Along the coastline, marine caves, inlets, and coves create a unique coastal landscape.
The Regional Natural Park Costa Otranto – Santa Maria di Leuca e Bosco di Tricase, which encompasses the area, is a true paradise for nature lovers. Here, you can encounter a rich diversity of plants, including ancient olive trees, and enjoy views of untouched landscapes. The local fauna includes rare species such as the peregrine falcon and the griffon; on the
road from Tricase Porto to Tricase, you can admire the Quercia dei 100 Cavalieri, a 1000-year-old Vallonea oak, standing 20 meters tall with a crown covering an area of 700 square meters.
The village of Castro, nestled on the coast, is characterized by narrow alleys, white houses, and a panoramic view of the Ionian Sea. The Castle of Castro, dating back to the 16th century, dominates the city and offers an extraordinary view of the surrounding coast.
A few kilometers from Castro Marina is the magnificent inlet of Porto Badisco, also known as the landing place of Aeneas.
It is said that the Trojan hero landed here, fleeing from the ancient city of Ilium, as narrated by Virgil in the Aeneid.
Moving along the coast, you will find the charming historic center of Otranto, with its Romanesque cathedral and mosaic floor, one of the largest and most fascinating in Europe.
Crossing the historic center of Otranto is a journey through time, with its cobblestone streets and picturesque squares.
Along the entire coastline, you can admire coastal towers dating back to the 1500s, used at the time as lookout points to counter the repeated attacks of Turkish pirates.
